On More Day on the Interstate, Seen on the Road

I-90, Mostly

I-90 is a lot of road.  This should be the last day on this entire trip with a requirement to put miles behind us.  The two goals today were very pleasantly social; to visit with a friend in Syracuse and to meet and stay for the evening with friends, in Epping, New Hampshire.  To get this done, there could be no blue highways involved in the transaction.

The drive was merely mechanical;  good roads, miles covered.  Not why we came on this journey.  The payoff -- the chance to spend time with very dear people -- made it worthwhile.  The Colonel will sleep this evening in what was the carriage house of an 18th century farmhouse with the chickens just across the way.  We will, one suspects, all wake up  together.  This is certainly a pre Frank Lloyd Wright home; no closets, small rooms, not counting this one.  The fireplaces, there are many, are supported by massive brick structures in the cellar and the wooden ceiling beams are exposed for admiration.  Spectacular.  So was dinner at a family table.  It will be a while before that happens again.

I-90

This is what a day making time looks like.  Efficient, but not worth driving across a continent to experience.

Seen on the Road

Rocky Horror in Syracuse

It would be interesting to see what they to with this in a nondescript neighborhood theater in Syracuse.

Tomorrow, Portland  Maine -- the Colonel will eat a lobster -- and the big turn south.  We will be running before the incipient snow, (it will freeze tonight,)  with a stop in Boston for some culture.  And dinner at Legal Seafood.  The scheduling trick, of  course, is to get out of here before the snow falls and arrive in the south after the threat of hurricanes.  We'll see how well that works.  More interesting pictures are promised.
